From its humble beginnings as Negro History Week by historian
Carter G. Woodson in 1926, we aim to take you on an unforgettable journey
through the celebration of our history.
Littered with triumphs and overcoming adversity, the history of the African
American journey lives as one of the greatest plights of courage and strength.
As we
present to you The Essential Thread of a Timeless Legacy, we hope to inspire
our audience to experience the fullness of our history and all that our
exuberant culture has to offer. Focusing on health, education, and arts, the
2012 Black History Month Celebration has worked tirelessly to ensure that the
UF and greater community can experience the breadth of our celebration.
