Arbor House

The Arbor House started in Gainesville in 1983 as a home to provide short-term housing as well as support for the homeless, pregnant women throughout the community. The program decided that more help could be done and decided to open a second home which would provide long-term housing after the babies were born, seeking to help the mothers complete an accredited degree or job training to earn good wages. The Arbor house has been taking volunteers this year with most of their focus on their flower beds which need to be re-mulched to help keep the appeal of the house. In conjunction with Progressive Black Men, Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority Inc, and NSBE, Black History Month will be volunteering at Arbor House on February 3 from 3p-5p.

Board Game Extravaganza

With a mission to “enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens,” the Boys and Girls Club is a great help to the community. Providing a safe place for students to go and enjoy recreational activities with peers, the club gives an opportunity for children to grow into young adults. During Weeks of Change Black History Month will be soliciting volunteers for a Game Day with the children of NorthEast Boys and Girls Club on  February 17 from 2p-6p. This event is co-sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.
